The GRSC/MYC Commodore’s Invitational is back again for 2024! Grand Haven to Muskegon with an awards reception at the Muskegon Yacht Club following the race. Registration is now open.

NOTICE OF RACE
The organizing authority (OA) for the 2024 Grand River Sailing Club (GRSC) Commodores Invitational Race are GRSC, 219 N. Harbor, Grand Haven MI 49417 (616) 502-1802, tmorell@comcast.net and the Muskegon Yacht Club (MYC), 3198 Edgewater, Muskegon MI, 49441, (231) 755-1414.
1. Rules
1.1. The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing including US prescriptions, the Sailing Instructions, and any applicable class rules.
1.2. The rules of: The Midwest Performance Handicap Racing Fleet (MWPHRF) and the Great Lakes Multihull Racing Association (GLMRA) for multihulls.
1.3. RRS Appendix T will apply.
1.4. Certain rules maybe changed and these changes, if any, will appear in the Sailing Instructions.
2. Advertising
2.1. Any Advertising shall conform to World sailing regulation 20.
3. Eligibility and Entry
3.1. The regatta is open to all boats with valid MWPHRF certificates.
3.1.1 The Race Committee may accept entries without a valid PHRF certificate and will assign a rating.
3.2. One-design classes will be accepted with a minimum of 5 entries to constitute a class.
3.3. Boats may enter Spinnaker or Jib-and-Main divisions.
4. Fees
4.1. Entry fee are as follows: $45 per entry, regardless of boat size.
4.2. Entries will be accepted up to 1000 Sat August 24, 2024.

5.2. Skippers Meeting will be held at 1030 EDT at GRSC Clubhouse, 2019 N. Harbor, Grand Haven MI, 49417.
5.3. Date of Race is Saturday August 24, 2024.
5.4. The scheduled time of the first warning signal for on August24 is 1155 EDT with the first section start at 1200 EDT, subsequent starts will be at 5-minute intervals.
6. Measurement
6.1. Each vessel competing in the Spinnaker or Jib-and-Main divisions shall produce a valid MWPHRF certificate.
6.2. Each boat shall conform to US Coast Guard safety standards Boats may be subject to inspection prior to or post-race for compliance with safety requirements.
6.3. A measurer, or measurers will be appointed by Commodores Invitational Chairman to review any certificates, or inspect a boat, if necessary. Rating adjustments or nullification may be made at the discretion of the Commodores Invitational Race Chairman.
7. Sailing Instructions
7.1. Sailing instructions are attached and will be made available at the Skippers Meeting.
8. Venue
8.1. The race will take place on the waters of Lake Michigan.
9. The Course
9.1. The course will be from a designated mark approximately 1/4-mile NW of the North Grand Haven MI pier head, to a finish mark near the Muskegon pier head, with optional rounding mark. Approximate distance is 11 nautical miles.
10. Scoring
10.1. The race shall be scored under the MWPHRF for both division and fleet.
10.2. Auxiliary Power Usage. In the event of a light air race, boats in the Jib-and-Main or Cruising divisions may use up to 1 hour of auxiliary power subject to a time penalty of two minutes for each minute of power used with a minimum penalty of thirty (30) minutes. Boats using auxiliary power must notify the Race Committee at the finish of the race.
11. Radio Communications
11.1. Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make nor receive radio communications not available to all competitors. This restriction also applies to cellular devices. Courtesy broadcast will be made via VHF channel 69. Failure to hear these broadcasts shall not be an opportunity for redress.
12. Prizes
12.1. Prizes will be awarded as follows: Plaque on Commodores Trophy for First Place in Spinnaker Division. Plaque on Vice Commodores Trophy for First Place on Jib and Main Division. Flags for First, Second, and Third place in sections. Location for awards will be the Muskegon Yacht Club lawn at approximately 1600 EDT on Saturday August 24, 2024.
13. Disclaimer of Liability
13.1. Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. Refer to RRS 4, Decision to Race. The Organizing Authority or Race Committee will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
14. Insurance
14.1. Each Participant shall carry and provide proof of valid third-party liability insurance with minimum coverage of $300,000 per incident or equivalent.
15. Parking and Post Race Transportation
15.1. Limited Parking will be available at the Muskegon Yacht Club, overflow and overnight parking is available adjacent in the South/East lot of Torresen Marine.
16. Mooring
16.1. It is recommended that pre-race mooring be at Grand Haven Municipal Marina. 616-847 3478, Reservations may be made at https://www.midnrreservations.com/, temporary tie up on the sea wall is available in Grand Haven on a first come, first serve basis.
16.2. Post-Race mooring, which may include rafting, will be available without charge at the Muskegon Yacht Club for the night of August 24, 2024. A nominal mooring charge will apply for longer stays.
